Can we use other containers besides pencil pouches?
The preference is pencil pouches.
In previous projects, cardboard pencil boxes were used, but many of
them got squashed, and volunteers had to replace them. To keep this
from happening, we are asking for this next project to use zippered
pencil pouches instead.
These can be any size and shape as long as they hold all your
materials.
The criteria for pencil pouches are:
1. must be sturdy and semi-flat for easy mailing
2. must be presentable and aesthetically pleasing (not used and/or
dirty)
3. cannot be decorated with things that will fall off
3. should be able to close with buttons, zippers, other closure
What about the postal rate? What if it changes?
The USPS announced February 10, 2009, that the postage rate would
change to $0.44 on May 11.
It is not expected that the first class letter postal rate will
change in 2010. SO you can...
• send 8 FOREVER stamps or
• send 8 $0.42 stamps and 8 $0.02 stampsor
• send 8 $0.44 stamps
Please also note that military personnel on base or in a war zone
who send mail to the US do not have to use postage. So there is no
need to send postcard postage in your kit.
Should we include 8 stamps or 10 stamps?
8 stamps are required, but for some groups it may be easier to send
simple sheets of 10 stamps. (You usually can't get them 8 on a
sheet or 16 on a sheet, but you can get them with 10 and 20).

(FYI: Forever Stamps are stamps that you can buy now for first
class mail and you don't have to worry about the postage increases
later. They will work on a first class letter "forever.")
